U-Tapao Airport
Pattaya International Airport or U-Tapao as it is better known, is an integral part of the overall plan to improve the transportation infrastructure of the region. Not only has it one of the biggest runways in Thailand, a new passenger terminal has been built expanding the capacity considerably. This means that U-Tapao can also act as the third airport for Bangkok in addition to handling the influx of new charter, freight and business flights coming into the Eastern Seaboard.
Highway 7 Improvements
The major motorway from Bangkok to Pattaya, Highway 7, has improved immensely since it was first built. The highway has reduced commuting time from the capital to the entertainment center of Thailand to under two hours. And the recent extension of Highway 7 that connects directly with Sukhumvit Road at Sattahip means that there will be a direct highway that links U-Tapao with Bangkok. All these developments have meant that many people from Bangkok are now snapping up property in Pattaya as it is a valid weekend destination with low commuting times.
High-Speed Rail Link
For many years there have been plans for a high-speed rail link connecting Bangkok and Pattaya. These now seem closer to becoming realized, and the new travel time has been estimated at just one hour. If this happens it will almost make Pattaya an extension of the capital, and in reality workers could easily live by the sea and commute daily into the city. This would dramatically affect real estate values in Pattaya.
Pattaya City Upgrade
Pattaya City Council understood the need for an upgrade of the highway system in and around the city. This is why the underpass on Sukhumvit was desperately needed. Now traffic flows freely along a section of road that leads directly onto Highway 7. Other major improvements in the inner city transportation network have also been successfully carried out. All this means that the traffic pouring off the motorway does not come to a complete standstill as it previously did. All these developments and plans are being put into place so that Pattaya has a perfect transportation system to carry the city forward in its future growth and success.
